About Modeling Agencies

One of the main goals in life for any young girl is "I want to be a model!". Boys want to be astronauts and race pilots, girls want to be models and singers. Well some people grow up, and some people don’t. If you still want to be a famous model, you should start checking out some modeling agencies.

Tips on modeling agencies

Just know that modeling agencies are looking, yes, you’ve guess it, for models! There is only one kind of model for them: slim, tall, and beautiful. You have to be 5’8’’ - 6’ (1.70m - 1.80m) and weigh 100 - 130 lbs (46 - 60 kg). Your dress size should be 6-8 and body measurements around 34B-24-34, your waist shouldn’t be larger than 25'' and hips maximum 35''. Age is also important; models between 13 and 19 years of age have better changes of being signed up.

Choose the modeling agency with care. Be on the lookout for any suspicious activity/object when making contact and requesting information, there are lots of phony modeling agencies that want to trick people into signing in, and just rip them off, without providing them any good jobs. Such agencies don’t even have a valid license, and they will ask you for front up fees. A legit modeling agency will only make money if you will too. They’ll charge you a 10-25% commission from the job contract they negotiate for you, so no contracts for you means no money for them.

But before you start planning how to spend your money, you have to get signed in. In order to do this, you will have to include in your application some pictures of you. Your portfolio should contain at least 6-7 photos good photos; some of them must be head shots and some full figure shots. Stay away from companies that ask you to use a specific photographer, and remember to compare the prices and work quality of several photographers before hiring one. You must also include in your application some basic information like your height, bust/waist/hips measurements, your age, and, of course, your contact information (address, telephone number, e-mail); in some cases it’s helpful for modeling agencies to also know your eye color, hair color, dress and shoe size.

If you do get accepted by a one of the modeling agencies, carefully read the terms of the agreement between you and the agency, and ask them to let you take the contract so your family and/or friends can tell you what they think about it. If they rebuff you, it’s probably a scam.

Don’t get discouraged if you get turned down by some modeling agencies, if you’re really confident that you can be a good model, it’s only a matter of time before you’re discovered and start a career.
